Other than what's visible, there typically are no symptoms associated with spider veins. Spider veins are considered to be a cosmetic problem, not a medical problem. However, they can cause embarrassment and have a negative impact on self esteem. Because of this they might limit your activities and keep you from doing things you love like going to the gym, swimming, golfing, or playing tennis. Some people with these unsightly veins are no longer comfortable wearing certain clothes like shorts, dresses, or bathing suits. If you have felt or experienced any of these things you may benefit from treating your veins.
Although spider veins themselves do not cause the following symptoms, deeper underlying varicose veins that "feed" the spider veins, can. These may cause symptoms like:
• Night cramps
• A heavy feeling in the legs
• Legs that tire easily
All of these symptoms generally worsen later in the day after being up and active for hours at a time. Complaints may worsen with menstruation and warmer weather.
